Thiers Issard was founded in 1884 by Pierre Thiers, a skillful blacksmith known for exceptional handheld blades. The family business continued through Pierre’s wife and sons well into the 20th century, and the handmade blades are still produced in central France today. Their razors have a reputation of having their own 'personalities' so be prepared to meet the love of your life or your arch enemy! That all being said, even Gold Dollar razors produced by the 1000's come out firing differently, but I am yet to come across one that could not be swooned into a great shaver.

Thiers makes their razors in a standard range, but also customizes them for customers, this one has an unmarked tang with jimps top and bottom, cream synthetic scales with a black synthetic wedge, and makes use of 'Sheffield silver steel' for the blade. The blade has some etching on both sides of the blade that looks slighly faded, with a few spots here and there than can be removed with a bit of elbow grease. (I use a buff on a bench grinder to clean most blades, but where there is printed emblems or etching I prefer doing a quick mannual buff to try and preserve the artwork, so cleaning the blade to as new condition is just too time consuming for me, but the new owner may want to fiddle around with that). This razor weighs 40 grams, the blade is 5/8 ths, or around 18 mm high, and has a cutting edge of 65 mm. The razor has a half hollow grind that gives a fair amount of feedback, for some reason the pics are not doing justice this razor, it looks better in hand/in person than what you see here, temperamental I tell you!

The razor is shave ready and in great shape, if you do not have a Frenchman in your collection yet, this may be the one for you!

*Vintage razors are priced according to model and availability, time spent cleaning and reconditioning and time/level of honing. Please enquire if you need additional work done to this razor prior to purchase. All straight razors will require a stropping on a leather strop before every use. Pics are unedited (detail) and provide a true image of the condition of the razor.
