Kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis) is a wood sourced from trees that are indigenous to the Southern African region. it occurs mainly in the warm, frost-free savannah forests throughout Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Rhodesia and South Africa. It grows in bushveld and woodland areas where the rainfall is above 500mm per year.

Although this wood looks 'pretty average' to me, it does have appeal in that it presents great shades of brown and red in a slightly wavy pattern, but the quality I like best is that it has a very high weight to strength ratio and is extremely stable. It is a superb structural timber, and with it's relative low weight it is the ideal material for folks who like a light brush from natural wood that is way better than pine, birch, ceder or spruce.

The brush is fitted with a lovely 26 mm boar knot, it stands 102 mm high with the knot set at 60 mm. The brush has a diameter of 44 at the base and 32 on the top rim. The brush weighs only a single gram over 50!
