There are some razors that have such a load of character, one does not want to change a thing on them, nor do we care much about the brand or the functionality, and here is one of them. Very little is out there on this John Patterson 'Sheffield; razor, this full wedge with basic stamping on the tang is probably around 200 years old and looks the part for sure. The scales are probably some diy replacement job done buy someone far from a town or with little cash, the scales a floppy and the pinning very primitive, but this all lends to the character of this razor.
Not the easiest of razors to shave with or to hone up, but it works and shaves without missing a beat, this is one for the hardcore straight razor aficionado, or for the guy who is not particularly worried about the closest shave as it leaves the stubble longer than most razors I have used. Mr Patterson says use three layers of tape on the spine to maintain its edge and supersized bevel!
*Vintage razors are priced according to model and availability, time spent cleaning and reconditioning and time/level of honing. Please enquire if you need additional work done to this razor prior to purchase. All straight razors will require a stropping on a leather strop before every use. Pics are unedited (detail) and provide a true image of the condition of the razor.
