The Cadman company was a well-established company that produced razors and cutlery in Sheffield England between 1748-1965. the Bengall trademark was first granted in 1748. Early Bengall straight razors were made from cast steel, also known as crucible steel. When steel production was still difficult and expensive in the history, it was a method used to produce homogeneous and purer steel in the early 1800s. This razor is in very good condition and is still all original, with the celluloid scales that is shiny and scratch free. This razor is one of their more recent models and around 50 plus years old, the blade centers nicely and the blade is tight enough to ensure it sits in place in any chosen poistion.
The razor weighs 48 grams, has a 6/8 blade height and a 5 mm thick spine resulting in a gnarly 14 degree cutting angle, we used one layer of tape when honing it up to protect the spine. The razor has some very cool, deep etching on the blade, and has not seen a lot of action, the bevel is straight and thin, showing off a great full hollow grind that can speak its mind. Working and shaving action is just lovely, this is a proper specimen from the Bengal range.
The razor has some pitting on one spot on the spine, but a bit of sanding while watching a Netflix series while have her be the attraction at the ball once again!
